Taylor was an important railhead for Texas cattle drives of the 1870s, and by 1882 had gained service from two railroads (Missouri Pacific and Missouri-Kansas-Texas). The city is the birthplace of Dan Moody, who was elected governor of Texas in 1926 at age 33, making him the youngest Texas governor in history.
