Washington is nestled on the banks of the Missouri River in the heart of wine country. Its charming 19th-century brick architecture plus quaint and unique specialty gift and antique shops attract visitors from across the country. The Missouri Meerschaum Company, the only manufacturer of corncob pipes in the world, is located here. Annual festivals are held in May, August and September.

Amtrak service in Washington is at the historic, and recently restored, Missouri Pacific depot.
