Named for a Santa Fe surveyor, Temple is a town the railroads built. Temple is also known as the wildflower capital of Texas, and many varieties of wildflowers can be seen blooming along the tracks in the spring and early summer. The 1911 depot and division headquarters building has been restored and reopened in July 2000. Thruway Motorcoach connections are available here for Killeen and Fort Hood, the world's largest military installation and home of the United States Third Army. North of Temple, we are on the tracks of the BNSF Railway; south of Temple, the Union Pacific Railroad.

Amtrak's Temple stop is a full-service station, offering ticket sales, checked baggage and small package express. Amtrak offers connecting Thruway Motorcoach service to and from Fort Hood, home of III Corps of the U.S. Army, as well as Killeen.
